If you are thinking of entering Sketch for Survival this year, you can find full submission guidelines on our website, along with an archive of previous finalists' work.

The entry form will be activated from 1 February. Submissions close 30 June.

Please read the guidelines carefully before you start your artwork. If your artwork does not conform it will, unfortunately,  be eliminated from selection.

What to look out for in 2024 - there are a few changes/enhancements:

1.100 artworks will be selected for exhibition from all submissions.

2.All 100 artworks will be auctioned online on Sunday 17 November.

3.All 100 will have a starting bid of £100, in line with the initiative's 'affordable art' roots.

4.All proceeds from the Sketch for Survival 100 supports our Project Fund.

5.You can enter anything (animal, fungi, plant) listed by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in the following four categories:

  • Vulnerable
  • Endangered
  • Critically Endangered
  • Extinct in the Wild

OR an at-risk wild space. A combination of the two is also acceptable (e.g, threatened species in its habitat).

6.There will not be separate wildlife/wild space categories this year. Everything must have a conservation story and the panel will select 100 from all submissions based on each artworks' merits and the submission form.

7.The submission form will require you to name the specific species and its conservation status/story according to the IUCN Red List (or other official body according to the notes given in the guidelines).

8.Size restrictions remain - A4 or A3 - if in doubt please read the guidelines.

9.You will need to attach a JPEG image of your artwork. No PDFs permitted. If you attach a PDF your artwork will be eliminated from selection.

10.New for this year, you will also be invited to share an image of you with your artwork. This image will be included in a special montage for the exhibitions and RGS event.

11.Finalists' work will be exhibited at The Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh and gallery@oxo, South Bank London for an extended period of 3 weeks this year! The Private Views take place on the evening of the opening day - invitations to reserve tickets will be sent to all finalists and permit one guest.  Places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

12.There will be an event at the Royal Geographical Society, London on Thursday 14 November. Awards will be presented at the event. Shortlisted artists will be invited as our guests. Finalists will be able to book discounted tickets.

13.This year's 100 will have the great privilege of being exhibited alongside some extremely prestigious artists contributing to the 2024/25 Extinction Collection (which will be launched in Autumn 2024), as well as established artists featured in the 2024 On the Brink collection.

14.Awards include the Sketch for Survival 100 Artist of the Year 2024 - the winner receives a trophy and will be invited to submit an artwork to the 2025 collection to be sold on a 50/50 basis; The Leisure Painters' People's Choice Award, voted for by the public - the winner receives a trophy and a digital subscription to the magazine,  and The Artist Award, selected by the editorial team of the Artist magazine - the winner is featured in the magazine and receives a digital subscription and a trophy.

We thank you for your support and wish you all the very best of luck for this year's competition.
